This audio system combines an FM radio, a CD player, and active
speakers in a single unit. With all the operating buttons lined
up on top of the arched aluminum mesh cabinet, all the functions
one needs are located together and available with just the touch
of fingertip. We gave particularly high marks to Bang & Olufsen's
finely tuned shaping, the unusual method of inserting and ejecting
CDs, the position of the display inside the aluminum mesh, and
the overall effort taken to give the audio system a slim elegance
that will enhance the user's pride of ownership.

Combining an IH heat source and a waterless cooking pot in one
unit, this item represents a new concept in cookers, that allows
users to finish their cooking tasks in a short time, due to
optimal heat controls. Consideration has also been given to
storage between uses, since the compact main unit fits snugly
to the outer shape of the pot and the retractable control panel.
This cooker was developed as a cooperative venture to embody
both the superior control performance of IH technology and the
technology of a manufacturer of cookware in Niigata prefecture.
There is a strong impression as an example of an honest, non-faddish
expression of a new universal type of cooker. We also approved
of the unselfish, harmonious collaboration process, which worked
across corporate and industrial boundaries.

Intended to be the world's smallest and most customer-friendly
example of its kind, this tankless toilet was developed with
consideration for the most efficient use of space and ease of
maintenance. Starting from the idea of making maximum use of
interior spaces, the designers took a look at all the required
functions, including hand washing, and the resulting tankless
design constitutes a complete rethinking of the concept of bathroom
fixtures. The designers received high marks for integrating
superior technology and design to meet every conceivable need
that users might have.

This convertible coupe was developed with an eye primarily to
the luxury car market in America. By providing a small cabin
on top of a massive underbody, the car conveys a powerful sense
of stability when the top is closed and a feeling of dynamic
elegance when the top is open. The modeling of the car stimulates
a feeling of adult playfulness, presenting possibilities for
pleasure. It radiates the essence of joy in use and ownership.
Japanese automobile manufacturers have not sought to challenge
European and American luxury car manufacturers in the area of
the coupe and other such cars designed entirely for personal
use. With this car, however, they have succeeded in creating
a new image of high quality and enjoyment. The product received
high ratings for so powerfully expressing the essential brilliance
of design, which consists in the creation of a dream.

This station wagon is aimed at the Japanese and European family
car markets. Its monoform design, which pulls everything from
the hood to the trunk together in a single sweeping line, not
only proclaims a distinctly Japanese identity but also demonstrates
a new concept of the passenger automobile. Inside, the instrument
panel is laid out to allow easy input and output of all the
information needed for driving, giving the entire interior space
a special sense of operability and visibility. The entire company,
from the top executives right down through the designers and
manufacturers, has placed a premium on every aspect of design,
and has given design its proper role in the manufacturing process,
leading to the development of a highly original product. This
car received high marks for combining logically efficient packaging
and innovative styling, as if to embody communication between
the car and the driver.
