JDP announces "2006 Good Design Award" winners

1,034 products include "best 15" were accredited G-Mark products

 

Tokyo, October 2nd, 2006 - Japan Institute of Design Promotion (JDP) announced today 1,033 products including the "best 15" that were accredited by the 50th Good Design Award (the so-called "G-Mark").

 

The JDP was founded in 1957 on the basis of the "Good Design Council" by the ex-Ministry of International Trade and Industry. Since 1998, it became the only organization in Japan involved in the comprehensive promotion of design activities, and one of the most famous historical design awards in the world. The main purpose of JDP is finding excellent design products, which encourage the contribution to the quality of life and industrial field via power of design. During these 50 years, JDP has accredited more than 32,000 Good Design products.

 

In April 2006, the JDP held the "Japan Design ?| Good Design Award 50 Years -," at their first international fair at the Palazzo dell'Arte at Milano, Italy. During the fair, more than 20,000 audiences visited and succeeded to inform the potential of Japan?fs design. In addition, the "Good Design Presentation (GDP) 2006," a screening presentation event, gathered more than 41,000 audiences and beat the historical GDP audience records. Therefore, "Good Design Award" is contributing to inform power of Japan?fs design domestically and internationally.

 

The "Good Design Award 2006" received 2,918 entries for "Product Design Categories," "Architecture and Environment Design Categories," "Communication Design Categories," and "New Territory Design Categories" from April 26th to June 7th 2006. Toshiyuki Kita, Manabu Akaike, Kiyoyuki Okuyama, and the remaining 70 council members judged the 2,918 nominees and accredited 1,034 G-Mark products. The accredited 1,034 G-mark products include the "best 15 Good Design Award," "Universal Design Prize," "Interaction Design Prize," and "Ecology Design Prize".

 

A "Good Design Grand Prize 2006" and 14 "Good Design Gold Prize 2006" will be selected from the "best 15" Good design Award winners by the Good Design Council members and Good Design Award winners will be announced on October 25th at the "Good Design Grand Prize Winning Ceremony".

 

The "Good Design Award" informs about design surrounding our daily lives, unborn new design connected to technology, and the role that design plays via the "Good Design Grand Prize".
