Criteria

 

The screening of the Good Design Awards is conducted based on the following criteria. "1. Is it a good design ?" is the item to evaluate expected basic elements of products and facilities, and "2. Is it a superior design ?" and "3. Is it a design that breaks new ground for the future ?" are the ones to judge objectively if there are any superior elements. Entry products must satisfy all the points of "1. Is it a good design ?" item. Furthermore, they have to posses at least one of the merits from "2. Is it a superior design" or "3. Is it a design that breaks new ground for the future ?"

It's designed to fit the usage environment where it's used.
It's original.
It meets the needs of consumers.
It's a good value for the price.

2. Is it a superior design?

(Considerations that make the superior aspects of the product)
 

Design
The design concept is superior.
The process or the management of the design is superior.
The formal expression is new and exciting.
The design is superior in its overall sense of completeness.

 

User
It shows a high level of solving the problems facing the user.
It puts the principle of universal design into practice.
It presents new modes of behavior and manners.
It conveys versatility and a high degree of functionality in an easily understandable way.
Consideration has been given to maintenance, improvements, and expansion during usage.

 

Industry
It makes skillful use of new technology and new materials.
It offers solutions through the creation of systems.
It utilizes high-level technical skills.
It demonstrates new modes of production.
It embodies new ways of selling and providing.
It plays a leading role in developing regional industry.

 

Society
It presents new modes of communication among people.
It will have a long useful life.
It puts the principles of "ecology design" into practice.

It contributes to a broadening of the social base.
It contributes to the realization of a sustainable society.

 

The criteria for G-Mark screening will be applied flexibly depends on product's categories. New point of view could be added on 2 and 3 at the time of screening.
