This prize honors the design activities of this publishing company,
which has both nurtured the development of young creative talent
in its in-house design department and built up a system that
continually produces high-quality editorial and visual design
in all the magazines that it publishes. An art director is assigned
to each magazine to give it a feeling of unity and to carry
out the company's theories of sophisticated editorial design
for what has come to be called "the Rockin'on look." Our committee
decided to honor Rockin'on Inc. for its corporate stance on
discovering and fostering new talent, its emphasis on visual
communication centered on art direction, and its well-established
editorial design style.
This prize honors the events which are built around the idea
of teaching young creative talent, design students, and people
interested in paper to understand the attractions of paper materials.
They take a second look at the essential nature of paper and
make proposals for the future. The company is continually backing
up designers, and supporting opportunities for everyone from
students to professionals to create every sort of communication
design. We are honoring Takeo Paper Show 2001 not only for its
events, but also for its contributions to the culture of design
using paper as a medium and its many years of corporate activities
in the area of design.
