| This university opened its doors in April this year as a prefectural institution that has both a new four-year college of nursing and welfare services and a junior college. Medicine continues to grow both more specialized and sophisticated, while on the other hand, there is increasing demand on the front lines of regional and locally-based health and welfare activities for the fostering of capable care providers who can perform practical work in collaboration with other fields and specialties. The design of the campus was supposed to embody the university's educational philosophy of "collaboration and integration of public health, medicine, and welfare." This was accomplished by means of an organic design plan that placed the buildings that house the various departments in such a way that they could inter-relate, created roof-top decks and apertures walled entirely in glass to include people in different buildings within each other's natural line of sight, and so on. This facility was positively appraised for its finely-worked design and precise methods that gave the university's principles a superb architectural embodiment while at the same time creating an entirely new space. |
