Outline

Commercial high-volume offset printing presses for standard-sized sheets. Brochures, catalogs, packaging, art magazines, and other fine printing applications generally involve offset sheet-fed presses, and the DIAMOND 3000 series can print up to 16,200 single-sided sheets per hour. It was developed for high performance in a stylish, user-friendly format. More convenient than previous models, this series incorporates new mechanism for faster startup. Operators can check the status of each unit on a multifunction beam. In this way, the developers blend performance and ergonomic, "soft geometric" shapes.

Designers Comment

This series was developed as user-friendly printing presses. The simple, modern shapes in Scandinavian design inspired the shapes we carefully chose, which are ergonomic and embody a "soft geometric" approach. The lower part of unit panels are cut diagonally, and the corners of printing units, paper feeders, and ejectors are rounded, which makes the press look less imposing. Panels in three shades of metallic silver have a baked-on coating, which also has the effect of making the press as a whole look more compact.

Judges Comment

This design is based on the concept of "user-friendly printers," with an extremely simple shape as its basic core, and formed with an eye toward ergonomics. With many of its components having a rounded form, this offset printing press is less visually imposing, and designed with consideration for the operator's psychological well-being and work environment.
It has an LED display that allows operators to instantly determine the status of the printing units. In this and other ways, from the smallest detail to the overall picture, it is a design that tells us that it was manufactured with utmost care.
